Cyclone Evan Update as of 19th December 2012

SHANGRI-LA’S FIJIAN RESORT & SPA, YANUCA, FIJI TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATIONS

Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa remains open as staff clean up following Cyclone Evan which passed over Fiji on Monday 17th December.

“We expect to resume normal operations from tomorrow” (Wed 19th December) said general manager, Mr. Michael Monks.  In an effort to stop guests from putting themselves in danger by walking around the Resort the number of food and beverage outlets was reduced as were the outdoor sports and recreation options – these were replaced by indoor activities.

The resort set up an information centre onsite to update guests on what was happening with the weather, the latest flight information and the Resort’s ongoing activities.

“During this time, our single most important focus was the safety and security of all our guests and staff,” Monks said.

Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts (www.shangri-la.com), one of the world’s premier hotel companies, currently owns and/or manages 77 hotels under the Shangri-La, Kerry and Traders brands, with a room inventory of over 30,000.  Over four decades the group has established its brand hallmark of ‘hospitality from the heart.’ The group has a substantial development pipeline with upcoming projects in mainland China, India, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Turkey and United Kingdom.
