Funding support announced for Tropical Cyclone Harold

In early April the islands of Fiji were just coming to grips with the impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic, only to be confronted with Tropical Cyclone Harold. The impact of a category 5 cyclone bearing down near 100km/h winds, bringing torrential rain and flooding had left a damage bill of close to FJD$30,000,000.00 in it’s wake.

As a result of the damage caused by TC Harold to infrastructure and the ongoing effects of COVID-19 which have seen all international travel banned – resorts were left with no choice but to ultimately suspend most of their employees. Although most full-time staff are still being paid 2 days wages, the temporary/casual workforce is left without an income.

The Bilo Bar Club trustees are pleased to announce that funding to value of FJD$72,400.00 will be made available to the 362 temporary workers, from Shangri-la’s Fijian Resort & Spa, who are currently without an income.

The 326 workers will receive FJD$50 per week for the next 4 weeks. The resort has kindly offered to administer the payments on behalf of the Bilo Bar Club.

The Bilo Bar Club trustees are also actively working to provide a solution to assist in the repair of some of the clubs beloved Kindergartens, which have also sustained damage as a result of the cyclone.

The Bilo Bar Club couldn’t make this considerable contribution without the ongoing financial backing of you, our valued members.
