Dear Bilo Bar Members,
I would like to extend warm greetings from Fiji, your home away from home at Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji.
2021 started out with the resort open to the domestic market in the first four months of the year. Fiji was hit with a second wave of COVID cases of which the main island – Viti Levu went through a five-month lockdown period from April to September 2021.
Thankfully all our colleagues are safe and have been fully vaccinated and we were able to open the resort safely on 24 September 2021.
The resort has continued to support our colleagues on a monthly basis with food hampers and we have heard great feedback from our colleagues who Bilo Bar members have supported directly. These programmes have greatly assisted colleague’s transition through 2021 without international guests, guests that comprised 95% of all reservations in 2019 and we are thankful for all the support.
In other news, the Shangri-La Group celebrated its 50th anniversary this year and in conjunction with the celebrations, the resort has officially had our name changed to Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji. Our new name highlights the uniqueness of our private island paradise Yanuca Island.
There is much behind the scenes activity as we ready ourselves to welcome back international guests and our esteemed Bilo Bar Club members to Fiji and your Fijian home. The resort is now an approved Care Fiji Commitment resort, and forward bookings have been flowing in with the holidays such as Festive, Easter and winter being popular so get your bookings in soon.
Our team continues to be busy preparing the resort with gardens being manicured, coconut trees being trimmed, pools being maintained, chefs preparing menus for our five restaurants and bars, and rooms being refreshed in readiness for a full opening of all resort facilities on 1 December 2021.
The last two years are behind us and we are all excited to meet with you again for a cocktail at Bilo Bar at sunset and we look forward to sharing our Fijian service from the heart, with our big “BULA” smiles.
Stay safe and “Sota Tale” until we meet again soon and thank you again for your support.
Loloma levu and yours sincerely,
Francis Lee
